Shepherds Hey!

Shepherds Hey! is a very old English melody. It was one of many tunes used to accompany Morris Dancers. The morris dance dates back to at least the 16th century and probably much earlier. It was a fun folk dance, often performed with bells and brightly colored costumes.
The engraving below is found in a panel on the Lancaster Castle. The castle opened in 1196 but the panel was added in 1580.
